Doug McGuire
My wife Anne and I got our first golden retriever in 1990, and our lives were forever changed. After getting involved with the local golden club, we discovered the joys and challenges of training and competing with our dogs. We quickly learned that the word “retriever” has deep implications for understanding the breed.
I've been actively involved in local clubs for more than 30 years. I'm a life member of the Greater Houston Golden Retriever Club, where I have served as Vice President, hunt test chair and secretary, and WC/WCX test chairman. I was an active member of Brazosport Retriever Club for almost 30 years, serving as President, Vice President, and hunt test chairman and secretary. As a member of those two clubs over the years, I've held every position (except hospitality chairman) in numerous hunt tests in Southeast Texas.
I want to serve on the MARC Board for couple of reasons. First, I want to support the charter of the club and help run the Invitational. I judged the MAI in 2019 and was enormously impressed with the spirit of cooperation and support displayed by the membership. Amateurs are the backbone of our sport and I want to take my commitment to them to the next level by being a part of the Board. I believe my long experience in the sport will help me lead effectively.
I think there are an awful lot of MARC members in the West Central Region who know me from the judging I've done over the years. Should they choose to invest their votes in me, I will do my level best to exceed their expectations as MARC Regional Director.
