Anne Millane
I have put my name forward for the Vice President position in the Central Region for the Master Amateur Retriever Club. I have been a member of MARC for three years and have participated in two Master Amateur Invitational events with my first pass in Emporia, Virginia. I am a loyal fan of golden retrievers and own two that I am training and competing with in multiple dog sports – hunt tests, agility, rally and obedience. My oldest "Rowdy" has been my first competitor in advanced levels of AKC and HRC hunt tests. "Magic," his son is just learning transition now and coming along nicely.
I am a member of many AKC and HRC dog clubs. I am on the board as Secretary for the Badger Golden Retriever Club and have been the show chair for numerous BGRC obedience/rally trials. I work every hunt test that I am entered in with the various clubs I belong to in Wisconsin, Washington and Texas. I am not afraid to roll up my sleeves to work as a marshal, manning a bird throwing station or hanging/drying birds at the line. I have found that I learn more when I participate as a worker closer to the action. I have attended both the basic and advanced judges seminars offered by the AKC to learn more about the standards for hunt tests.
As a retiree, I have the good fortune of being able to travel to stay ahead of the snow and train four months in the winter months in Texas. When I did work, I was in mid-management directing federal and state programs for at-risk youth including workforce development, alternative education and AmeriCorps national service. As a director in a state educational agency, I lead over 25 professional staff members in our mission and managed federal, state and private funds to support these programs. After retiring in 2008 and getting restless, I returned to direct practice as a school social worker doing prevention work around alcohol/drug use and managed Carl Perkins vocational funds for a technical college's student services division. I retired finally for good in 2018. I am an experienced grant writer and continue to review grants for the state of Wisconsin to keep my skills sharp and challenge my mind, giving back to the welfare of children.
I believe that many of my talents can be utilized in the Vice President role for Master Amateur including my written and oral communication skills, problem solving skills, negotiation skills and level-headedness.
